The long wait for RPG fans is over. Blizzard in the 2008 Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide Invitational, has announced that the sequel to Game of the Year, Diablo II is now in development.
The timeline of Diablo III is set twenty years after the victorious defat of the three prime evils. Something is stirring by the time Diablo III starts, and its possible that it has claimed its first victim--Deckard Cain.
Blizzard promises a host of returning characters from Diablo II. There will be new NPCs as well RPG gamers should all look forward to.
So far, two character classes have been revealed by Blizzard: the Barbarian and the Witch Doctor. There is a circulating rumor that players will now be able to select the gender of their character. However, there will be five character classes in the game by release.
There is a mention of Tristram, the town where Diablo wreaked havoc in the first two installments, and based on the journals, it seems that New Tristram has been rebuilt out of the ashes of the first in recent years. There is also a second town called Caldeum, a town which may be a center of commerce and trade. The Diablo III site also reveals a world map of the Diablo mythos. It's possible that the player will have to work his way through the Diablo world to finish quests and battle out the major enemies.
Diablo III is indeed something to look forward to in the near future.
