Temptation of Wife (The Philippine Remake)

GMA Network will be airing a remake of the hit Korean TV drama, Temptation of Wife.

Primetime Queen Marian Rivera, will be top-billing the adaptation. She will be Angeline, a role first played by Korean superstar, Jang Seo Hee, who bagged the Dae Sang in the 2009 SBS Drama Awards for her outstanding performance in the TV drama.

Marian will be joined by Alessandra De Rossi, who takes on the role of the antagonist, Heidi; Dennis Trillo, Angeline's husband, Marcel; and for the first time on GMA, Rafael Rosell, who will star as Nigel.

Here are some fanpics I created in anticipation of the Philippine remake.

The last picture is based on the cover of the original soundtrack.

All About Eve Premieres Tonight

The Philippine adaptation of classic Korean TV drama All About Eve premieres tonight on GMA Telebabad. The Philippine version boasts of a powerhouse cast which place Iza Calzado and Sunshine Dizon at the helm.

All About Eve is the story of two young aspiring female journalists who will do all it takes to make it to the top. As they find their path to recognition and fame, they will discover the many trials they need to face to get there. They will also find true love.

All About Eve also stars Mark Anthony Fernandez, Alfred Vargas, Jean Garcia, Eula Valdes and Richard Gomez.

Jang Geum's Dream on GMA

Korean animated series, Jang Geum's Dream is showing soon on GMA.

A spin-off of the original hit drama series Jewel in the Palace or The Great Jang Geum as it is known in other Asian countries, the animated series is about a young girl named Jang Geum who dreams of becoming a palace cook. The details regarding her eventual role as physician to the King as well as more complicated matters such as death, murder, intrigues and corruption does not appear in this series, as it is intended for a younger audience. Infused with light comedy, Jang Geum's Dream will certainly win the hearts of Filipinos just as Jewel in the Palace did.

Ako Si Kim Sam Soon

Ako Si Kim Sam Soon debuted last Monday with an amazing 33.8% rating in the Mega Manila TV Audience Measurement (MegaTAM) conducted by AGB-Nielsen. To date, viewers are already getting hooked with the new toprater from GMA 7. It seems as if it was a worthy of the remake of the original.

Regine Velasquez stars as the hideously funny--and chubby--pastry chef Kim Sam Soon and Mark Anthony Fernandez partners Regine as the tough and insensitive Cyrus.

What's your opinion on the remake? Post your ideas in the shoutbox, or post a comment.

Ako si Kim Sam Soon

A new trailer for the GMA remake of the classic Korean drama is now being shown over GMA. Funny but witty, viewers have high hopes for Ako si Kim Sam Soon as early as now. Here are some of their comments:

Philippine Kim Sam Soon Cast Revealed

GMA Network recently revealed the cast of the Philippine remake of My Name is Kim Sam Soon. A couple of months back the network had disclosed that Regine Velasquez will be spearheading the cast of one of the most popular Korean dramas of all time. She will be playing the role of Kim Sam Soon, a role first popularized by Kim Sun Ah all over Asia. In a similar fashion, she is set to gain weight to look the part, as Kim Sun Ah had done previously.

Mark Anthony Fernandez portrays the male lead Cyrus (Hyun Jin Heon in the original Korean) popularized by Hyun Bin while hunky doctor Hayden Kho Jr reprises the role of Daniel Henney as Dr. Henry Kim. Nadine Samonte plays the role of Hanna Yoo (Yoo Hee-jin in the original series), a part first played by Jung Ryu Won.

Other members of the cast include Wendell Ramos who portrays Harvey Min (Min Hyun-Woo in the Korean version), Ms. Tessie Tomas, Carmi Martin, Jennica Garcia, Mart Escudero, Pauleen Luna, Marky Lopez, Arthur Solinap, Sheena Halili, Maureen Larrazabal, Kevin Santos, and John ‘Sweet' Lapus.

Insiders reveal that the show is set to replace Joaquin Bordado in July.

Hana Yori Dango: Korean Version

According to one article posted in the Philippine Entertainment Portal website, GMA 7 secured the rights to the Korean version of the hit teeny bopper series.

And I quote:

As an example on how fast Ms. Gozon-Abrogar works, while talking about new Korean soaps, napag-usapan na may official announcement na sa South Korea na magkakaroon din sila ng version ng Meteor Garden, ang Japanese manga na unang pinasikat ng Taiwan featuring F4 (Translation: it was discussed that there was an official announcement from South Korea that there will be a Korean version of Meteor Garden, the Japanese manga first popularized in Taiwan and featuring F4). It was reported that the girl in the Coffee Prince ang gaganap na Shan Cai.

Narinig na rin pala ito ni Ms. Annette and while talking, she sent text messaging her connections/buyers of South Korean soaps. (Translation: Ms. Annette has already heard about the news and while talking, she sent a text message to her connections/buyers of South Korean soaps). It was done and go sa GMA-7.

More about this article and the equally controversial remake of a Charo Santos-starrer on GMA 7 here.

My friend Genevieve has confirmed the tentative title would be Boys Over Flowers.

The question now is, will there be a Philippine remake of the story? Your answer is probably as good as mine.

Full House Remake on GMA

GMA 7 has confirmed that there will be a remake of the most popular Asian series of all time shown on Philippine television and that they have secured the rights to the show. Full House has kept Filipinos glued to the screen because of the light, funny and love witty story of an aspiring writer and a childish actor. The question now is who will reprise the roles that we Filipinos have come to love so much?

An online petition has suggested two names: Richard Gutierrez and Marian Rivera. After their successful team-up in My Bestfriend's Girlfriend, fans are already requesting for a follow-up. It seems as if GMA 7 has plans for their tandem, and there is a possibility that this would translate to a remake of the successful Koreanovela.

To include your name in the petition, please visit the GMA-7's Full House (Philippine TV Remake Series) thread at PinoyExchange.

The Legend

One of the Korean dramas to look forward to this summer is The Legend starring Bae Yong Joon. It's the story of Damdeok, descendant of the founder of the Goguryeo Dynasty, Jumong. The 24-episode drama distinguishes itself from its predecessors because of fantasy elements and use of a modernized Korean language. The drama also marks the comeback to television drama of veteran Korean actor, Bae Yong Joon, best known for his performance in Winter Sonata.

The Legend received numerous awards and nominations from the recently-concluded MBC Drama Awards:

• MBC Won, Best Drama
• MBC Won, Highest Award (Bae Yong Joon)
• MBC Won, Popularity Award (Bae Yong Joon)
• MBC Won, Popularity Award (Lee Ji Ah)
• MBC Won, Best New Actress (Lee Ji Ah)
• MBC Won, Best Couple Award (Lee Ji Ah and Bae Yong Jn)
• MBC Nominated, Top Excellence in Acting (Choi Min Soo)
• MBC Nominated, Best New Actor (Lee Philip)
• MBC Nominated, Popularity Award (Choi Min Soo)

Korean Drama Remakes

I am a fan of Korean dramas. I seriously am. Korean stories are way better than tried-and-tested Filipino and American scripts, and the actors in Korean dramas are so damn good with their craft.

The recent news about Regine Velasquez who almost transferred to ABS-CBN 2 created quite a stir in showbiz. She is after all, the Philippines' biggest singing star and she has stayed with GMA 7 for more than a decade. Apparently, Regine was enticed by an offer by the network to portray the role of Betty, La Fea in the network's own version of the show. GMA 7 countered the offer of rival ABS-CBN by offering her to star in the local remake of widely popular Korean drama, My Name is Kim Sam Soon. Looks like Regine is staying with GMA. Couldn't wait to see her don the chef suit soon.

Now that reportedly, GMA 7 is doing the remake of Kim Sam Soon, another Korean drama up for a remake under the network is Full House. This too, sources say, is to be top-billed by Regine. I'd personally go for Marian Rivera instead of the 40-year old diva. Her personality is as bubbly as that of Jessie Han's, first portrayed by Song Hye Kyo. As for the role of the cold-hearted young actor, I'd like to see Billy Crawford fill in Rain's shoes. After all, Rain is to Asia as Billy Crawford is to Europe and Justin (Timberlake, that is) is to America.
