Effective Employee Monitoring

I often read tech blogs and surf the web for innovative ideas and fresh concepts to blog about. I found that this practice is indeed very helpful, as I have discovered many new solutions to daily problems through bloghopping. Just recently, I stumbled upon a very innovative website that offers a cost-effective way to manage employee performance through utmost transparency.

My Team Monitor allows managers and leaders to effectively and efficiently monitor their staff. This is done by tracking how and when employees work. Employee monitor software is installed in employee workstations to aid employee management.

One way the software does this is by taking regular screenshots of employee activities on their computers. Aside from screenshots, the employee monitoring software also tracks mouse clicks, keystrokes and an employee’s total worked hours. These are sent to their supporting leaders and managers who can view these screenshots and other reports to review employee performance, on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. This allows trends of inactivity, non-utilization and idle time to be observed.

Thus, those who are worthy could be more appropriately rewarded, while those who are challenged could be coached and mentored to perform more efficiently and effectively.

My Team Monitor is really a simple, yet innovative way to work remotely with confidence and transparency. I know that business leaders, executives and managers will realize that this software will be a valuable tool for business.

Error stdole32.tlb solved!

Last week, I encountered a very weird issue on my computer. I have a desktop with Windows Vista Ultimate and Microsoft Office 2007 Professional Plus. It has been working for a while until I decided to install Microsoft Visio 2007 and Microsoft Project 2007. Then my problems began.

Everytime I started an Office application, it would act as if it were installing that Office program all over again.

Even the Office files were unassociated--DOCX and DOC files would not open in Microsoft Word by default.

But the key to getting this error fixed had to be the error message that appears whenever I open up Microsoft Excel: stdole32.tlb.

So what I did first was to uninstall Microsoft Office and Microsoft Encarta. But that did not fix it. I did it a couple of times but to no avail. I was desperate. I thought my Norton Antivirus was causing the problem so I uninstalled it, reinstalled Microsoft Office and Microsoft Encarta before installing Norton Antivirus but it was still unresolved.

I then installed Windows Vista Service Pack 1, thinking it would fix the problem. That too didn't fix it. I was ready to format my hard drive and start from scratch.

But then I decided to search online for possible solutions to this problem. Maybe I wasn't alone after all. I then came across this site and it really helped me lot to get my computer working again.

It turns out that there were no groups or usernames that HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT in the registry could be provided permissions.

In the Registry Editor, checking on permissions on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT should reveal something like this:

However, mine was special, and it did not have any groups or users that can be provided permissions:

The fix involved using the SubinACL tool available from Microsoft as a free download. It should install in C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Toolsby default.

Then I typed the following code in Notepad:

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=restricted=r /grant=YOURUSERNAME=f /grant=restricted=r /setowner=administrators
subinacl /keyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=restricted=r /grant=YOURUSERNAME=f /grant=restricted=r /setowner=administrators

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=r /grant=everyone=r /setowner=administrators
subinacl /keyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=r /grant=everyone=r /setowner=administrators

subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=r /setowner=administrators
subinacl /keyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f /grant=users=r /setowner=administrators

replacing YOURUSERNAME with the computer username. After saving the file as officefix.cmd in the same path as where SubinACL was installed, I simply double-clicked on it and it repaired my registry.

ShopWiki: Revolutionary!

Other shopping sites can only provide you so much. Their options, brand names and stocks are based on what dealer ties up with them. Thus the products offered are limited. For online shoppers, that means they have to bear with the price dictated by the store and the available models and brands on their sites.

That's why ShopWiki is revolutionary. Unlike other online shopping websites, ShopWiki actively searches other stores on the Internet. This is similar to how Google crawls through the millions of webpages posted online. While other shopping sites just provide you the stores that have paid for placement, ShopWiki offers several alternatives to the online shopper.

For instance, ShopWiki's accessories page is a portal to bags, gloves, hair accessories, hats, shoes and even scarves! Their page on bags alone provides several models, brands and other options to choose from--backpacks, laptop bags, luggage, camping backpacks, designer bags and baby bags come in different makes, shapes, brands from the most affordable to the incredibly fashionable and trendy.

Visit ShopWiki today and you'll be surprised to see how it can help you search for the best deals for the products you need to pruchase online.

Keeping our Law Enforces Safe and Secure

As the protector of peace, policemen are often revered and admired by all. And why shouldn’t they? They risk their lives to save the lives of others. It is after all, a risky business to go after criminals and catch them to maintain peace and order in the community. The ordeals they have to go through to keep law and order are often perilous, sometimes claiming even their own lives or at the very least, putting them at stake.

That’s why it is of utmost importance to ensure their own safety in their line of work. The 5.11 Tactical Jacket enhances the safety, accuracy, speed and performance of law enforcement, military and firefighting professionals. It is a two-layer, waterproof, breathable outer shell with a face of 100% nylon, and fully seam-sealed construction 12 pockets to store gear, as well as a pull-out badge holder. It has two pull-out identification panels inside zippered compartments, one on right chest, one across back shoulder blades. It also has a stow-able, adjustable, removable hood; adjustable cuff tabs; a wind-resistant zip-out fleece liner and an ANSI II Reflective Vest. Best of all, it is designed to perform in a variety of weather conditions.

The outer shell, the fleece liner and the reflective vest can all be worn separately. The 3-in-1 can also accommodate the Soft Shell as a zip-in. The 3-in-1 also incorporates the 5.11 Tactical Back-up Belt System, with pouches that attach inside the chest of the outer shell with hook-and-loop attachments for secure gear concealment and can be accessed through slit pockets.

The 3-in-1 outer shell feature long two-way zippers that run from the bottom of the jacket PAST the pit of the arms, enabling the wearer to unzip wherever and whenever needed, for underarm ventilation, a wider range of motion, and improved access to a duty belt. The outer shell and fleece liner also feature abrasion-resistant fabric at the inside waist to protect against duty belt abrasion.

There's Windows and Mac OS. Then there's Ubuntu.

For those of you who don't know, Ubuntu is a free operating system based on Debian GNU/Linux. Ubuntu is a Zulu word loosely translated as "humanity." This describes the Ubuntu philosophy: "I am who I am because of those around me," a positive aspect of community.

Ubuntu boasts of the following:

  2. A usable operating system (with applications for working with documents, spreadsheets, presentations, browing the web, etc),

Fish Tycoon

Together with Plant Tycoon, Fish Tycoon was among the first few games I played on my Palm. The PC version of the game offers the same excitement and gameplay as the classic simulation game for PDA users.

Fish Tycoon is a fish breeding simulation game. Although you are provided with limited resources to begin your career as a fish breeder, you need to use what's available to be on top of the fish trade industry. Through upgrades and researching technologies for your fish, you are able to breed rarer varieties until you discover the Seven Magic Fish of Isola. To find out more about this game visit the official site from LDW.

Plant Tycoon

I first played Plant Tycoon when I downloaded this application for my Palm. Although I admit I was bored to death when I started playing it, I found out eventually that Plant Tycoon was a not your typical simulation game. This gardening sim allows you to take care, raise and breed plants while allowing you to experiment and discover more expensive breeds which you can keep or sell.

The game's objective is to breed plants until the Six Magic Plants of Isola (four in the original game) are found. Using limited resources, you have to work your way into becoming a top plant breeder and tycoon with the upgrades and resources available to you. The desktop (PC and Mac) version of the game offers more features not available to the original games made for handheld PDA users. More information is available from the official website.

StarCraft II

The sequel to one of the most memorable real-time strategy games of all time is finally here. StarCraft II from Blizzard, first announced in 2007, is bound for release in 2009 for Windows XP, Windows Vista and MacOS.

The Protoss, Zerg and Terran races in the original game make their return to a full three-dimensional environment. But apart from being deployed in a 3D landscape, other improvements to the gameplay have also been promised by Blizzard, including a new graphics engine, focus on a multiplayer aspect and an overhauled Battle.net. Changes to the game have been, in part, due to the fans.

Additional information is available on the official
website.

The Sims 3

It's the third installment of the hit human simulation game from Electronic Arts. But apart from just being able to control simulated people and build houses, The Sims 3 has certainly a lot more to offer.

According to the official website, the gameplay for the sequel to the highly popular and critically-acclaimed The Sims and The Sims 2 promises to provide more excitement to veteran and rookie gamers alike. First, there is now more control over the physical features and characteristics of created Sims with Create-a-Sim. This provides the player plenty of options to play with, especially for the gamer who wants to base his Sims on characters from his favorite movies or TV programs. Second, it will now be possible to visit the entire
neighborhood by controlling just one Sim. Now, strolling through the village has become a reality that The Sims 2 gamers thought would only be possible in the opening animation sequence. Third, the buy and build modes have been entirely re-conceptualized to allow free rotation of items and selection of multiple objects. Lastly, the game can now be played in real-time, hence, unused Sims can still experience events in his life--marriage, death, graduation--and gain memories.

With all the new improvements and enhancements in The Sims 3, it is certainly a welcome wait for its release in 2009.

I was recently introduced to this website, PayPerPost by a friend. I was inspired by how much she was earning from writing to her blog. Her earnings average thousands of dollars monthly. She was even able to get her entire family on an expensive beach vacation because of her earnings. She inspired me. So I decided to sign up.

PayPerPost is a site that pays for creating posts on your blog. The best part of it is that sign up is free. Unlike many other sites, the requirements are very easy to meet.
