Neurotic accounts manager Wesley Gibson's humdrum life changes suddenly one day when he meets a beautiful woman in black, Fox at the drug store. She tells him that she was sent to protect him from the man who had just killed his father. All along, Wesley thought his father had died the week he was born. Fox tells him that his father had just died and that he is the next target.

Soon after he is recruited into a group of assassins who call their society the "Fraternity," an organization of which his father was a member. He also meets the group's leader, Sloan, who together with Fox, teach him how to become an assassin just like his father.

This movie is also director Timur Bekmambetov's first American movie.
